Learn More About Gramercy Park

Did you know there are two private parks in New York City? One is in Manhattan and the other is in Sunnyside Queens. The private park in Manhattan is located in Gramercy Park where the entrance is at 20th Street and Irving Place. If you go there, you will not be able to get into the park as it requires a key to enter. Gramercy Park was enclosed by a fence in 1833 and the park is accessible only to residents of surrounding buildings.

At the center of the park is a statue of the famous actor Edwin Booth playing Hamlet. His brother was John Wilkes Booth who assassinated Abraham Lincoln. Today the park has remained relatively unchanged for the past 80 years, surrounded by beautiful townhouses.

Come take a tour of the park and its surrounding area and you’ll learn more about its history and famous inhabitants.
