A century ago, the Lower East Side saw unparalleled growth as waves of immigrants settled, prayed, played, worked, and shopped in this neighborhood as they built their new lives in a new land. While the LES was the most densely populated place in the world due to the vast Jewish immigrants arriving to the United States around the 1900’s, the area still has many remnants of the past. My walking tour will focus on many of the remaining vestiges and surviving buildings. It’s time to explore this remarkable period of immigration in New York City history through the neighborhood’s history. We’ll be stopping at existing and repurposed synagogues, tenements, old banks, food stores to names a few. If you’d like, we could even get a couple of noshes along the way and even add Little Italy and Chinatown to the tour.
Join me as we stroll through streets of the Lower East Side to visit some of the neighborhood’s oldest attractions and culinary institutions. You’ll see the great things New York City has to offer and unlock the secrets upon which the city was built. Experience the best of Manhattan’s vibrant streets, historic landmarks, and lesser-known wonders with a lifelong New Yorker…
